Rental assistance is available for businesses affected by the S. Kihei Road sinkhole closure
If your business relies on in-person customers and has been impacted by the road closure between Kamaole II Park and Alanui Ke Aliʻi Street, you may qualify for partial rent reimbursement for every month the closure continues.
ASSISTANCE TIERS — BASED ON DISTANCE FROM THE CLOSURE
50% — Within 300 ft Sole arterial access directly blocked
25% — Between 301–700 ft Significant detours deter customers
10% — Between 701–1,200 ft Reduced corridor traffic measurably hurts volume
*Tier percentage applied to your monthly rent (base + CAM + taxes), prorated for the days impacted each month.
DO YOU QUALIFY? YOU NEED ALL THREE OF THESE
✓ Your business requires in-person customers (retail, restaurant, bar, personal services, entertainment, etc.)
✓ Your primary entrance is within 1,200 feet of the road closure boundary
✓ You have a signed lease showing your monthly rent (base + CAM + taxes)
How your payment is calculated:
(Days impacted ÷ Days in month) × (Monthly rent × Tier %) = Monthly assistanceExample: $3,000/mo rent, Tier 1, → $1,500
What Happens Next?
- Look for a Program Guidelines Letter from the Office of Recovery: OOR contacts all businesses in the corridor — reach out directly if you haven't received one.
- Provide a copy of your current signed lease to your property manager or OOR: Used to confirm eligibility and calculate your assistance amount.
- Sign the Business Interruption Agreement: A brief addendum to your existing lease, covering the duration of the closure while funds remain available.
- Receive monthly payments — automatically, every month the closure continues: Issued to your landlord on your behalf. No action needed from you after enrollment.
